Ferelden - Heavy food, hot food, lots of calories for a miserable climate. Sausages, thick soups, venison and mutton, rabbit, potatoes, baked apples, savoury and not too sweet or spicy.
Orlais - rich, extravagant. Pastries and cheeses, boar, honeyed carrots, black cherries in cream. The sweetness is almost overwhelming in most of their dishes.
Rivain - simple in presentation and preparation, but filling and often spicy. Grains and dark bread. Exotic mushrooms and peppers.
Antiva - light, flavourful, heavy on the seafood. Figs and summer wine, stuffed olives and crab cakes.
Nevarra - rich, spicy, pleasing to the eye - the Nevarrans believe food is as much an art as a painting. Spicy and savoury dips. Flat bread, thick coffee, honeycomb, blood oranges. Rich sauces and marinated meats. Jellies and crystallised fruit.
Tevinter - a bit of everything, washed down with heady wine. Roasted quails, grapes. Ginger, rosemary, garlic. A magister’s banquet rivals their Orlesian neighbours.
